RayFlex: Flexible Mirror Tiles

New to Production Gear, RayFlex is a reflector system built for cinematographers and gaffers who want natural-looking light without adding heavy, power-hungry fixtures. If you’ve ever wanted dappled, textured light on a subject or background but not the time it takes to rig gobos or dress practicals, RayFlex is worth a look.

How They Work
The multi-mirror reflectors are made up of flexible mirror tiles. You bend one into shape, point it at your source, and it throws an organic pool of dappled light wherever you aim it. The amount of curve changes the pattern: keep it flat and the light stays dense and concentrated, bend it more and the pattern breaks up and scatters.

The tile size changes the character of the light too. 5mm tiles give a fine, mottled texture, 10mm is slightly larger and soft, 20mm gives chunkier organic pools, and 25mm creates large, uneven, more dramatic patches. Broken light like this reads as natural because it resembles light through leaves, water or window frames, which makes it useful for adding depth to a background or texture to a subject.

Why Use Reflectors?
Reflectors need no power and give off no heat, and they’re light enough to carry easily to location. Changing the angle or distance is a quick way to fine-tune the effect without moving heavy fixtures, which helps in tight spaces or anywhere power is limited. They also let you shape light in ways a direct source can’t, and a smaller lighting setup can save space, budget and time.

Range and Mounting
The range covers 7 sizes and up to 34 models, so there’s a lot of choice in size and finish. RayFlex mounts to a standard baby 5/8" stud or gobo grip head, so it fits into a rig you already have. There’s also a set of accessories: sliding lock mounts, ball-joint arms, super clamps, flexible rods, safety cables, a cleaning kit and a portable bag for the M series.

RayFlex in the Field
DP Hamish Anderson and gaffer Nuno Rodrigues used RayFlex equipment in promotional material for BBC's coverage of the 2026 World Cup, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. You can see the finished result in the video below.

RayFlex is now available through Pro Gear. Full details on sizes, kits and accessories are on the product page.
